Tips and Tricks: Automate some data cleaning

There’s a clever little checkbox in 7Sheep which can help you with your data cleaning. It is especially useful for single text fields where you ask for people to submit names (or, if you’re doing a form in German, for any proper noun!). If you check the box “Format text to title case” then even if one of your contacts submits data through a form in lower case, 7Sheep will automatically capitalise the first letter of each word. In the example here, a user would submit their “Name” as arthur dent, by using this check box 7Sheep will automatically store the entry for you as Arthur Dent. This just makes your data cleaning even easier and then your automated e-mail campaigns a lot more professional looking as regardless of the character case they submitted you will be addressing your leads correctly. A simple but very powerful checkbox! Any questions about this topic or just interested in marketing automation? Want your organisation save time and money? Contact us today to see how we can help! How’s Marcomms doing in Europe?

If you’re in Marcomms in Europe, there’s an excellent read out there: European Communication Monitor 2014, it’s over 150 pages of insight based on solid research with more than 2500 respondants in 42 countries. The subtitle of the report, Excellence in Strategic Communication – Key Issues, Leadership, Gender and Mobile Media, gives you a taste of the breadth of the report. Some interesting points on technology and work 84.4% of respondants said that new ways of communicating enriched their jobs. (p.21) 68.2% of people agreed that modern information technology made their work easier. (p.21) Female professionals are better at utlising digital technologies in their daily job. (p.22) New technologies and new forms of communication are most impacting those working in online communications. (p.23) In terms of work load, professionals in joint stock companies and agencies work significantly more overtime than colleagues in other organisations (p.26) (so I hope that they start automating as much as possible soon!) More strategic input A fascinating section of the report comes later on, talking about strategic communication and channels of communication. For me, this is really where the intersection of Marketing and Communications with technology can really play a part and help. “Nearly half of the 2,777 respondents in the ECM 2014 survey (44.9 per cent) stated that the profession has to tackle the ongoing challenge of linking communication and business strategies. The profession is striving for a strategic position at the decision-making table in order to become a part of the strategic management of an organisation (Cornelissen et al., 2013; Grunig, 2006; Verčič & Grunig, 2002). ” (p.82) Although automation isn’t highlighted...

Feeling like a robot? Start automating!

One of the great things about onboarding new clients and/or client support is to watch the dawning realisation that so much of the grunt work and robotic copy and paste associated with many people’s day-to-day lives can be automated. I like to call this the “Can I really…?” moment. Here are our top 4 “Can I really” moments from over the last weeks… “Can I really automate drip campaigns. And personalise them?” Of course! A drip campaign is a pre-defined set of e-mails sent out over a specified period of time. A trigger in 7Sheep can automate an action, for example, if someone fills in a form on your website as they are interested in a product, this can trigger a response in the back end. For drip campaigns, this response is a series of e-mails. A typical set-up is that there is an immediate e-mail delivered thanking that person; two days later another mail is sent; a week afterwards a reminder or special offer can be sent if there is no response, and so on. Using the tags to personalise your e-mails will help this even more. “Can I really print my badges for an event without using Word to mail-merge?!” Yes! Any field can be utilised to create a report. You will need to set up an HTML template for your badges (we can help!) or table plates, or participant list (the list can go on). Then every time you have an event you can generate your badges by just creating that report with a few clicks! So much easier than mail merging! “Can I really send...
